Dad sexually abused daughter for 10 years

An odd-job worker in Singapore has been convicted of raping and sexually abusing his daughter over a period of 10 years, beginning when she was only six years old.

The 35-year-old man was found guilty of all five charges he was on trial for - three of rape and one charge each of oral sex and molestation between 1999 and last year.

He denied all the charges, claiming that the teenager, the eldest of his three children, had cooked up the allegations.

Neither can be named to protect the identity of the girl, now 17 years old.

The abuse began in 1999, when her father made her perform oral sex on him. She was only six then.

A year later, he raped her twice in the living room of their rented two-room flat.

Ahmadinejad: Girls Should Marry At 16

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad urged young girls to marry at age of 16 in his latest rejection of the country's once effective family planning program, local newspapers reported on Sunday.

Following record birth rates in the wake of the 1979 Islamic revolution, Iran implemented an internationally praised family planning program in the 1990s that dramatically reduced the growth rate. Ahmadinejad has criticized the program as an ungodly and a Western import.

"We should take the age of marriage for boys to 20 and for girls to about 16 and 17," he said, according to the state-owned Jam-e Jam daily. "The marriage age for boys has reached 26 and for girls to 24, and there is no reason for this."

Since coming to power in 2005, the Iranian president has sought to increase of the country's population, which is already at 75 million, with a third between the ages of 15 and 30.

In July, he inaugurated a new policy to encourage population growth with financial incentives for every new child born, having previously said the country could feed a population of 150 million.

Critics said the policy will only exacerbate unemployment, currently set 9 percent officially. There are an estimated 3 million unemployed people of working age in the country.

Friends fear for Wenger's despairing French rapper 'lover'

The Daily Express quoted pals of Sonia Tatar, 39, as saying that she was "very depressed" after Wenger allegedly refused her appeals to leave his wife.

Sonia was signed off work sick when their fling was exposed following crisis talks at a Paris airport last week.

The Arsenal manager is currently at his London home with wife Annie, 53, and daughter Leah, 13.

A pal said: "All Sonia wanted was to settle down. Now she has some deeply serious problems to sort."

Arsene, 61, refused to comment on his private life last night, saying the allegations were "without any truth".

Mystery Solved? Missile Launch Could Be a Jet Contrail

A video that appears to show a missile launch off the coast of California is so far "unexplained" by anyone in the military, a Pentagon spokesman told reporters Tuesday -- but what seems mysterious could be nothing more than an airplane.

Federal officials do not consider the event a threat. And they aren't the only ones.

According to a post on ContrailScience.com, the visible exhaust from a jet engine, a trail of condensed water vapor called a contrail, resembles a missile trail when seen from some angles.

The confusion between a missile launch and a jet plane launch is caused by several common misconceptions, the site notes, explaining that the angle of launch, the direction of flight, and even the shape of the Earth can lead to the illusion. And indeed, when you look at certain images of jet launches, they do look a fair bit like missiles.

The site's author goes on to note other factors that could connect the unexplained launch to a jet engine. There's no no bright rocket flare, just a few flashes of sunlight, and a sunlit trail. Plus the unexplained craft is incredibly slow, the site notes, while rockets move incredibly fast.

Meteorologist Kevin Martin of the Southern California Weather Authority is a believer in the airplane theory, too.

"We see this often when the flights come at the right time, however, some people are just out to witness it at the right time," Martin told Examiner.com in Los Angeles. "We had strong winds up there as well as really cold temperatures from a passing storm system. This also had an area of upper level moisture ... where airliners fly."

And a senior military official told Fox News late Tuesday that indications are that the contrail "was more likely caused by an airplane than anything else because the other possibilities of rockets or missiles are turning up negative." But officials still aren't 100 percent sure, so the military is taking steps to review its missile inventory and make sure they're all accounted for.

A similar mystery event took place on Dec. 31, 2009, when a launch in the skies over Orange County mystified people. The Orange Country Register noted a few days later that the event was variously described as a rocket launch or jet contrails. ContrailScience.com argues that both events were simply planes -- seen from an unexpected angle, that is.

A Boeing spokesman could not immediately confirm this potential explanation for event. Meanwhile, military officials continue to puzzle it over.

The Missile Defense Agency told Fox News it did not launch any test missile last night that could explain the dramatic images. The Navy and the Air Force were also unable to offer an explanation.

"It does not appear that this was a regularly scheduled missile test," Lapan said. "Before a missile test the military sends notifications to mariners, airmen and air traffic controllers to stay clear of the area." And according to Lapan, it doesn't appear those warnings were sent.

ContrailScience.com's plane theory may explain why the military simply doesn't know what the so-called mystery missile was.

A colourful Gay Pride parade

Thousands of people marched in Argentina's Gay Pride parade on Saturday.

They were celebrating the country's status as the first in Latin America to legalise same-sex marriage and vowing to campaign for new rights for transgender people.

More than 500 same-sex couples have been married since President Cristina Fernandez signed the law on July 21, said Esteban Paulo - president of the Argentine Lesbians, Gay, Bi and Transgender Federation.

The gay marriage law has been a boom for tourism, said Pablo De Luca - founder of the Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce in Buenos Aires.

He estimated that 100,000 more gays and lesbians have visited Argentina as a result of the law.

"It's the same kind of increase that happened in South Africa, Canada and Madrid after they legalised gay marriage.

"We want to travel to a country where we don't feel like we have to hide our sexuality," said De Luca.

Gay and lesbian couples still face discrimination - some civil servants have been unwilling to sign their marriage licenses and the judicial system is slow to approve adoptions by them.

Argentina's dominant Roman Catholic Church remains opposed.

The theme of Saturday's parade, held in Buenos Aires, was "Let's go for more" - specifically, a "gender identity" law to enable individuals to change their gender on birth certificates and identity cards.

Janet Jackson Has Her Breasts 'Bound' at Eleven

Janet Jackson had to have her breasts "bound" when she was 11. The singer-and-actress says she started puberty quite early and during her first TV acting role, producers deemed her chest too big, so it was strapped down.

"I was actually doing 'Good Times' and on our first day of shooting they bound my chest because they thought my breasts were too big," she said. "I got the part when I was 10, we started shooting when I was 11 - I was developing early."

The 44-year-old star says the incident left her feeling self-conscious about her body and it is something she talks about in her new self-help manual, "True You". She explained in an interview with ABC News, "It made me feel that the way that I am, it's not good enough. That's why I decided to call the book 'True You'."

Since the incident, Janet's breasts once again caused controversy. In 2004, during the halftime show for the Super Bowl, Janet was performing with Justin Timberlake, when he tore open her top and exposed her right breast. Although Janet insisted it was an accident, she later apologized, saying, "I am really sorry if I offended anyone. That was truly not my intention."
