548..How to Navigate Inside the Registry

 
1. First open 'Run' by clicking on 'Start' and selecting 'Run'.

2. Type 'regedit' in the textbox as shown in the figure and click 'OK'.

3. You'll get a window like the one shown below.

Now observe the registry path for deleting the 'IsShorcut' value. Its 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT-->lnkfile'

Now we will break that path into 2 parts namely 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT' and 'lnkfile'

So now lets being navigating through the registry. Let us take the first part of the path (HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT).

4. So just double click 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT' and you can see a number of entries under it as shown in the figure.

5. Scroll down till you reach 'lnkfile'.

6. Now simply double click on 'lnkfile' and observe the right hand side of the window. You will see 'IsShortcut' listed under 'Name' column. Right click it and select 'Delete'.

7. You'll get a confirmation dialogue box. Click 'Yes'.

8. Close registry and restart your system. You'll no longer see the shorcut arrow on icons after the restart.


Note : No matter what the path is, the method would be the same. Suppose the registry path is 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-->Software-->Microsoft-->Current Version', start by double clicking on 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE'. Then scroll down and double click 'Software'. Scroll down again and double click 'Microsoft' and so on.
